Ajman, UAE (May 23, 2016) – Ajman Museum celebrated its Silver Jubilee on Friday (May 20) with several activities including participation in events organised by the Environment and Protective Areas Authority.
More than 3000 spectators attended the event to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the opening of Ajman Museum which was highlighted with presentation of folk dances, live cooking of traditional food, competitions and free entry to the museum for residents and visitors to Ajman.
Opened in May 20, 1991 by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE when he was on a visit to the Emirate of Ajman, the Ajman Museum has become one of the main attractions in the UAE. Formerly the fortress of Ajman, it was converted into a fully fledged museum by the generous gesture of His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman.
The museum displays models of antiquities, traditional industries and artifacts as well as images portraying the way of life in the past. The museum aims to introduce to visitors the nature of life in the UAE society for generations during the pre-oil phase and to introduce the heritage and the life style in the UAE before the emergence of oil.
HE Faisal Al Nuaimi, General Manager of Ajman Tourism Development Department, said: “We join the people of Ajman in celebrating the Silver Jubilee of Ajman Museum. The museum is one of the key attractions in Ajman and we are seeing an increase in the number of visitors to the museum year-on-year indicating great interests to learn about the history of the UAE. We thank His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman for his generous gesture of gifting the fortress to the people of the UAE by converting it into a museum to protect the local culture from extinction.”
For the past 25 years, Ajman Museum has hosted several presentations, school trips and received dignitaries and VIPs from neighboring countries and abroad.
