From wildlife spotting and falconry displays to henna painting and camel rides, a desert safari is a quintessential Arabian experience not to be missed.

A desert safari is the ideal way to explore the enigmatic Arabian Desert, which occupies most of the Arabian Peninsula and is home to native animals such as oryx and gazelle.

The desert is only accessible by 4WD and tour operators, such as Ajman National Travel Agency and Ajman Travel & Tourism, will pick you up from your accommodation and then drive for around 40 minutes into the desert. Tours are available during the morning, afternoon or evening (with an overnight stay in an authentic Bedouin camp) and last around four to six hours.

Activities range from gentle off-roading across the dunes to more vigorous dune-bashing, along with camel rides, falconry displays and even sand-boarding. Most afternoon tours include a barbecue dinner at a desert camp and henna painting, while morning tours offer a traditional breakfast of Arabic delicacies such as chebab and balaleet.
