Day 1

Day 2

Start your day with an early breakfast at your hotel, then grab your sunscreen and spend a couple of hours chilling out by the pool. Set among landscaped gardens by the beach, the five-star Ajman Saray and Kempinski Ajman Hotel have two of the most pleasant pools in town, while Ramada Hotel & Suites Ajman in the heart of the city has a temperature-controlled indoor pool that’s ideal in the hot summer months.

After lunch, head to the beach for a dip in the warm Arabian Sea and some fun watersports. Fairmont Ajman and Kempinski Hotel Ajman offer a host of activities, from stand up paddle boarding and jetskiing to flyboarding and banana boat rides.

Early afternoon is a great time to visit Al Tallah Camel Racecourse for some unforgettable racing action. Camel racing season runs from October until late March or early April, with races also held during the morning, so check with your concierge for up-to-date information.

Next up, challenge your friends and family to game of ten-pin bowling at Emirates Bowling Centre in the Al Bustan area or Cosmic Bowling at Kempinski Ajman Hotel. The latter is a six-lane bowling alley with a space-age vibe, featuring a licensed bar, casual dining area and karaoke room.

Finish your evening with dinner at your hotel, or one of the many casual eateries along the Corniche where you’ll find some great independent restaurants serving authentic Arabic fare.

Day 3

Rise early and take a taxi to the lively Fish Market in the Al Rashidiya area near the creek. Here, you can watch local fishermen bring in the day’s catch and even sample some for breakfast at one of the simple stalls that can fillet, season and grill your fish of choice.

If you don’t fancy fish first thing in the morning, head to Ligma & Yighma near Ajman University, an Emirati café that serves up a language lesson alongside casual eats. Be sure to say hello to the friendly owner, Ibtisam Al Suwaidi.

For an insight into the emirate’s history, visit Ajman Museum in the Al Bustan neighbourhood. Housed in an 18th-century fort, which served as the ruler’s residence until 1970, the museum has an interesting collection of archaeological finds, old photographs, weaponry and manuscripts.

Shopping is something of a national sport in the UAE, so indulge in some retail therapy at Ajman City Centre Mall. Home to more than 60 stores, from local fashion shops to international chains such as H&M, Aldo and The Body Shop, you’ll also find casual dining options and leisure attractions.

Next, do as the locals do and take a sunset stroll along the Corniche. Overlooking the 16-kilometre shoreline and dotted with cafés or restaurants, the area is popular with joggers and visitors during the day but it really comes to life during the evening and on weekends.

Then it’s time to bid Ajman farewell and head to the airport to make your way back home.
